The first four months of 2015 have felt like the busiest in OCA history. The first ever Ontario Cup Track series started in February and ended in April with the Provincial Track Championships. Each event saw anywhere from 110 athletes to over 150 in attendance, attracting riders from all over Canada including some from the northern US states.
The Road Ontario Cup season also commenced with the annual Good Friday Road Race. Marc Risdale and the entire Hamilton Cycling Club crew once again did a phenomenal job, creating an exciting field of play for over 500 athletes.
The next stop on the circuit saw riders coming from across the province, to race on a fully closed track at the Calabogie Speedway, just outside of Ottawa, Ontario. Paul Chedore and the Cyclologic crew were extremely pleased with over 80 additional riders making the trip out to the event.
The month of April will wrap up with the first major MTB XC event, Paris to Ancaster. Once again the event sold out in record time with over 2200 riders registered. There are still a few spots open if you’re interested, be sure to contact the organizers if you feel like battling the elements!
The month of May is sure to not disappoint. If you’re a rider looking to get on the bike whether you’re a recreational rider, a competitive Youth, Road or MTB cyclist the month is packed full of events!
For the MTB XC rider, the XC Ontario Cup series gets under way with a bang. Race Organizer Sean Ruppel had this to say, “Come kick off the province’s top MTB series at Woodnewton! It’s the perfect start to the season with rolling hills, great single-track and fun for everyone!”
For the under 17 riders, the first Road Youth Cup is set to take place on Saturday May 16th right here in the GTA at Honda’s head office in Markham, just off of the Don Valley Parkway. The event is held on private property, is fully closed, and will feature an ITT and Road Race.
One of the longest standing events, the Springbank Road Race will take place on the 3rd of May followed up by the iconic Niagara Classic Road Race on the 17th.
These are just a few of the events taking place next month and throughout the season that we have all been waiting for.
