The Ontario Cycling Association Youth Road Series allows youth between the ages of 9-18 to experience the speed and thrills of racing. The series focuses on participation and fun. Riders will compete once again in ability based categories from grades A-E, with A being the most advanced category and E being the beginner category. Each Youth Cup will consist of a road race as the core event and another additional event to work on building well rounded Road cyclists. Other events include, but are not limited to: Criterium, Time Trial, Sprint Challenge, etc.
The 2019 series features ten events that will take place between the months of May to September at several venues around Ontario. Please note this is a preliminary calendar and more details will be released about each event as they are provided by the organizers.
Youth Cup #1 – May 4th, 2019 @ Ontario Police College Youth Cup
Pairing with O-Cup #3 of the Road series, the Youth Development Series will get underway in Aylmer, Ontario on May 5th at the Ontario Police College. Similarly to its O-Cup counterpart, the event will be run out of the Police Vehicle Operations course. The course is a relatively technical 1.7 km flat circuit with approximately 10 corners and a wide Start/Finish straight.
Youth Cup #2 – May 19th, 2019 @ Flamboro Speedway Youth Cup
New in 2019, the second event of the Youth Road Series will take place on May 19th at the Flamboro Speedway. The event will run on a roughly 300-meter oval race track located on 5th Concession West in Flamborough, Ontario. Riders will get two exciting events at the Speedway with a Road Race and a Street Sprint Challenge.
Youth Cup #3 – May 20th, 2019 @ Delaware Speedway Youth Cup
Running again on the Monday of the Victoria Day long weekend, the 5th annual race around the flat 650-meter Speedway will be the 3rd stop of the 2019 Youth Road Series. The venue has easy access from HWY 401 and HWY 402 just west of London. This fast and smooth race track will keep all competitors on edge while families and spectators can watch the racing from the stands or large infield.
Youth Cup #4 – June 8th, 2019 @ Tour de Speed
The Tour de Speed has been one of the great races of the Youth Road Series since 2007. The North Union Community Center will be the starting point once again for the 2019 edition. Staying consistent with previous years, riders who participate at the 4th Youth Cup will have the Road Race as the main event and a Time Trial as the secondary race.
Youth Cup #5 – July 6th, 2019 @ Peterborough
In its inaugural season, the Tour de Peterborough is the fifth stop of the Youth Road Series. The third speedway featured in the series allows for a comfortable racing experience for participants and will be another great learning environment for youth around Ontario.
Youth Cup #6 – July 20th, 2019 @ Franklin Templeton Investments
After a successful event in 2018, the Franklin Templeton Investments Youth Cup will be paired with Max’s Big Climb once again. Riders will have plenty of opportunities to test different skills in a competitive format. After riders complete Max’s Big Climb, they will have two more races at the Mattamy National Cycling Center including a Sprint Tournament and a Criterium as the main race.
Youth Cup #7 – August 3rd & 4th, 2019 @ Off the Front Sports Summer Classic
Running out of the two 2018 Ontario Summer Games Road venues, riders will participate in a two-day stage race in London, Ontario. On August 3rd the races will be located on Sovereign road for the Sprint Challenge and Criterium, while August 4th will have Ivan road as the venue for the Road Race and Time Trial/Team Time Trial portion of the weekend.
Youth Cup #8 – August 10th, 2019 @ Midweek Youth Cup
After a one-year hiatus, the Midweek Youth Cup returns to the Youth Series calendar and promises to be an exciting Early-August experience for youth racers. The event will feature a Sprint Challenge and a Road Race.
Youth Cup #9 – August 24th, 2019 @ Jukasa Motor Speedway Youth Cup
The freshly paved 750-meter track located in Hagersville, Ontario will be a great addition to the 2019 Youth Road Development Series. On August 24th at the Jukasa Speedway, riders will get to challenge themselves with a timed Road Race and Street Sprints.
Youth Cup #10 – August 31st, 2019 @ Tour di Via Italia
Rounding out the 2019 Youth Road Series, the Tour di Via Italia Youth Cup will be paired with the final event of the Criterium Series. The event will once again run out of the Ciociaro Club of Windsor. The club features a 1.3 km course with 8 meters of climbing per lap. This is a 20+ feet (1.5 car lanes) wide track designed specifically for bike racing. The turns are gradual and safe, with a small hill behind the baseball diamonds.
