2019 Youth Road Development Series Update

We are just under a month away from the first event of the 2019 Youth Road Series! There have been some changes made to the original schedule release, which include the removal of the Ontario Police College Youth Cup and the Tour de Speed. However, we are excited to announce the addition of a youth race paired with the Kitchener Twilight Grand Prix. This will make for a nine-event Youth Road Series! As we get closer to the first event at Flamboro Speedway on May 19th, here’s a look at the updated Youth Road Series schedule.

 

Flamboro Speedway – May 19th, 2019

The Flamboro Speedway Youth Cup will get the Youth Series started on Victoria Day weekend. The event will run on a roughly 430-meter oval race track located on 5th Concession West in Flamborough, Ontario. Riders will get two exciting events at the Speedway with a Road Race and a Street Sprint Challenge.

Delaware Speedway – May 20th, 2019

The second event of the KW Cycling Academy youth weekend will be back at the Delaware Speedway. Running again on the Monday of the Victoria Day long weekend, the 5th annual race around the flat 650-meter Speedway will be the 2nd stop of the 2019 Youth Road Series. The venue has easy access from HWY 401 and HWY 402 just west of London. This fast and smooth race track will keep all competitors on edge while families and spectators can watch the racing from the stands or large infield.

Midweek Youth Cup – June 22nd, 2019

After a one-year hiatus, the Midweek Youth Cup returns to the Youth Series calendar and promises to be an exciting Late-June experience for youth racers. The event will feature a Sprint Challenge and a Road Race.

NCCH Franklin Templeton Investments Youth Cup – July 20th, 2019

After a successful event in 2018, the Franklin Templeton Investments Youth Cup will be paired with Max’s Big Climb once again. Riders will have plenty of opportunities to test different skills in a competitive format. After riders complete Max’s Big Climb, they will have two more races at the Mattamy National Cycling Center including a Sprint Tournament and a Criterium as the main race.

Kitchener Twilight Grand Prix Youth Cup – July 27th, 2019

Pairing with the third event of the Ontario Criterium Series, the Kitchener Twilight Grand Prix will also now feature a Youth Cup race in the morning of the event. Youth athletes will get a chance to race on the beautiful 1.3 km course around Victoria Park in downtown Kitchener and complete a skills challenge as the second event of the day.

Off the Front Youth Cup – August 3rd – 4th, 2019

Running out of the two 2018 Ontario Summer Games Road venues, riders will participate in a two-day omnium race in London, Ontario. On August 3rd the races will be located in London on Sovereign Road for the Criterium and Individual Time Trial, while August 4th will have the village of Ivan as the venue for the Road Race and Sprint Challenge portion of the weekend.

Jukasa Speedway – August 24th, 2019

The last of the three KW Cycling Academy youth events will be at Jukasa Speedway on August 24th. The freshly paved 750-meter track located in Hagersville, Ontario will be a great addition to the 2019 Youth Road Development Series. Riders will get to challenge themselves with a timed Road Race and Street Sprints.

Tour di via Italia Youth Cup – August 31st, 2019

Rounding out the 2019 Youth Road Series, the Tour di Via Italia Youth Cup will be paired with the final event of the Criterium Series. The event will once again run out of the Ciociaro Club of Windsor. The club features a 1.3 km course with 8 meters of climbing per lap. This is a 20+ feet (1.5 car lanes) wide track designed specifically for bike racing. The turns are gradual and safe, with a small hill behind the baseball diamonds.

Peterborough Youth Cup – Date & Location TBD

The Peterborough Cycling Club is still finalizing details regarding the Peterborough Youth Cup. Once the details regarding the event have been finalized they will be updated on the Events Calendar section of the website. Please check in regularly for updates.

 

Membership & Licensing Information

All racers must possess a valid 2019 UCI license or Citizen Permit in order to participate in the Youth Cup races. License processing takes between 2-3 weeks from the time of purchase. If you are planning on racing any of the events listed above, you must ensure you have received your digital copy of your license before race day. Payment confirmation will not be sufficient to participate.
