Ontario MTB riders and fans got a special treat this past weekend with the 2014 Canadian Cross Country and Eliminator Championships at Hardwood Ski & Bike, July 17-20.
Hardwood has undergone massive trail upgrades and changes in preparation for the Pan Am games. Riders were able to experience many aspects of the course changes with Canadian Champs being a “Test Event” for Pan Am. Spectators benefitedwith the redesigned course being extremely spectator friendly.
All of Canada’s best World Champions and Olympians had confirmed to race, making this event a special one of celebrating the strength and fun community of the sport. Almost 600 riders of all abilities came out to do their best and the podium say some familiar faces as well as some new ones as well.
The team relay saw Team Quebec take first place for the second consecutive time! Team Ontario came in second and Team British Columbia finished in third place.
The Elite Female category saw Catharine Pendrel, Emily Batty, and Sandra Walter take 1st, 2nd, 3rd respectively and the Elite Male category saw Geoff Kabush, Derek Zandstra, and Raphael Gagne take 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
A big congratulations goes out to all of the athletes who got on top of the box this past weekend. We would like to highlight that Quinton Disera, Soren Meeuwisse, Erica Leonard, Eric Batty, Jon Barnes, Eric Jobin, Robert Sule, Rhonda Stickle and Lisa Holmgren. They all did Ontario proud taking home gold at the 2014 MTB XC National Championships!
