2019 U19 Canadian Road Championships

Once applications are received, a decision will be made regarding logistics/format for this project. The High Performance Committee has the discretion to determine the viability of the project in consideration of the number of applicants, ability to field a competitive team, and ability to provide a positive development opportunity.

Objectives:

  • To win a medal in a Junior Men’s/Women’s event (RR/Crit/TT)
  • To win a National Championship, male or female
  • To develop and learn to work as a team in support of team riders
  • To have a positive presence for Ontario
  • To place athletes within the National Team World Championship Pool
  • To prepare for athletes Tour l’Abitibi (Junior Men) and Tour of Rimouski

Selection Process
(U19) Junior Men/U17 Men(2nd Year): Max 8 Athletes –Final Selections will be based on the following criteria. Please note criteria is subject to change as approved by the High Performance Committee due to cancellation/addition of events or other reasons which require changes.

  1. 2019 OHPSI identified athletes [Road]*
  2. 2019 Quest for Gold Identified athletes [Road]*
  3. Top 3 from Provincial Championship
  4. Top 2 U19 athletes with highest point total in the O-Cup Series on June 3rd [E 1/2]
  5. Coach/Committee selection. Consideration will be placed on the following [in priority order]:
  1. Results of U19 within E 1/2 in O-Cup Series
  2. Results of U19 Men within E 3 in O-Cup Series
  3. Athlete racing experience at high level events in 2018/19
  4. Strengths of the athlete as it relates to the needs of the team
  5. Ability to take instruction and work as a team

*Identified athletes will be prioritized ONLY if they have maintained performance and training which allows them to positively contribute to the success of the team
