Introductory Training Rides

Program Purpose: A three (3) year initiative to support women’s road racing for aspiring competitive female cyclists culminating with participation at the 2021 Canada Games.

Process: Creating recruitment and development opportunities through a variety of mentoring, training, and competition opportunities

Open to OCA licensed female road cyclists with a focus on development and performance enhancement using evidence-based training in an excellence environment.

Objectives – Year 1: Initial Recruitment, Development, and Training Group Development

  • To provide support, guidance, mentorship and training opportunities with present and former elite riders including Olympians, pro tour riders, and national team members
  • To provide a community-based environment that promotes excellence and best performance
  • To supplement existing team and club programs to maximize female road cycling development and performance by providing evidence based NCCP coaching and DS support to OCA licensed riders
  • To provide support and quality race experience opportunities outside of club programming and Ontario Cup series

In order to build a quality training group, rides will be open to all aspiring competitive female cyclists. The groups will be broken down to focus in the following:

Cadet/Junior Females

High level training sessions to develop skills, tactics, and endurance leading to competitions such as the Tour de l’avenir MaKadence and ultimately the Canada Summer Games in 2021 [supplementing existing club/trade and national team programs and avoiding program overlap

U23/Senior Females

High level training sessions using evidence-based approaches to maximize development and performance. Initiative to create alternate pathways for entry into high level road cycling competition opportunities and fill gaps to assist athletes as they move into the train to win stage of LTAD.

Duration: 10:00AM – 2:00PM

All athletes aged 14-18 are asked to email Julia juliafarell@hotmail.com directly to introduce themselves and provide a bit of background on their previous cycling experience and futures goals.
