Team Ontario flew to Vancouver for the 2014 Canadian Junior Track Championships . The members of the team had been training together for the last few weeks with intentions to get onto the podium in all the events entered.
Day #1: Team Ontario had solid qualifying performances in all the events and made the medal round in Team Sprint and Team Pursuit. In the finals, Ontario riders from Team Ontario and Team NCCH were dominant going Gold/Silver in the U17 Team Pursuit for Girls & Boys. Out a possible 12 medals Ontario took home eight (8) medals, an outstanding start to the weekend.
Day #2: Included the Omnium and Sprint events on the program, again Ontario riders were well represented securing two (2) podium finishes in the sprint events. In the Individual Pursuit Ontario riders won a total of six (6) medals out of a possible 12.
Day #3: In the final day of competition, many athletes were starting to feel the pressure of having to perform at the highest level day after day. The Omniums were to be decided for all categories, as well as the 500m/Kilo Championship. Team Ontario riders were motivated and pumped up about the prospect of more medals. Charlotte Creswicke took her 4th podium of the weekend with a blistering 39.71 – 500m good for Bronze. Bayley Simpson stopped the clock at 1:08.1 in the Kilo, a solid Silver medal ride. Katherine Maine earned a Silver medal in the U19W 500m with a time of 38.93…this was only the beginning.
In the final event of the Omnium, Team Ontario controlled the events by racing at the front and launching attacks throughout the races. In the end, Team Ontario won Gold & Silver in the U19 Women’s Omnium (Sarah Mason & Katherine Maine) and Bayley Simpson scored Gold in the Junior men’s Omnium.
