OCA February Excellence Camp – Oxnard, California – Camp Reports Day 7

OCA February Excellence Camp – Oxnard, CA – Day 7 Report

by Emily Flynn

Day 7

Yesterday marked the last official riding day for the OCA CSG California Camp, although some athletes will be able to sneak in an early morning ride before their flight on Sunday. With an early morning ride time, warm temperatures made it possible to ride in just shorts and a jersey, but this also made for some extra crispy athletes.

The last day marked a big one, with the minimum ride length being 130km, but all the athletes were super eager. The next group did a140km ride which featured a lengthy climb up Latigo Canyon. And a number of athletes really wanted to go out with a bang and did a160km ride featuring two major climbs. Mountain goat-like climber, Jordan Cheyne even broke the Strava KOM record for the bottom portion of Latigo Canyon.

After all the athletes got back and after some much needed re-fueling and rest there was a group shot taken on the beach featuring some beautiful Oxnard graffiti and some pretty good looking athletes.

Ever-hungry, and with little food left in the fridges, many ventured to Ventura for a nice dinner out. At the end of the day we went home to pack, dreading having to return home to reality and getting back on the trainer …after a couple rest days of course.
Many thanks to the OCA, all the coaches, parents and everyone who helped make this camp possible!!
