Types of UCI Licences
Guide to choosing your licenc
The type of UCI Licence that you purchase depends on the sport that you are competing in, age, gender, and ability level.
All these factors determine the category you will be racing in for the season. The following tables are a guideline to the type of UCI Licence that you should purchase.

All new members must start in the entry/lowest category.
*the Sportif/Beginner category is a new introductory/beginner category that was introduced at the start of the 2012 race season to allow beginners and those new to the sport of road cycling to get some race experience

Rider
- New riders must start at the entry level and earn upgrade points to climb to more difficult abilities
- Riders requesting to change their ability categories without earning the required upgrade points the previous year must submit a written request to the OCA Upgrade/Downgrade Committee
- Riders requesting to change their designated age categories must submit a written request to the OCA Upgrade/Downgrade Committee along with their OCA Membership Application Forms. (Note there is no changing age categories mid-season, NO EXCEPTIONS)
- Riders graduating from age group (i.e. U17 to Junior) will be placed in equivalent ability category. U15 will graduate to U17 Sport. U17 Sport will graduate to Junior Sport. Junior Road will graduate into Senior 3. (Some rules apply)
- Riders graduating from age group and requesting a different ability status (i.e. U15 to U17 Expert, Junior Expert to Senior Elite, Junior to Senior 2, etc) must submit a written request to the OCA Upgrade/Downgrade Committee if they did not earn the pre-requisite points.
- Riders requesting to downgrade (and did not appear on the downgrade list) must submit a written request to the Upgrade/Downgrade Committee along with their OCA Membership Application Forms
- Any written request to the OCA Upgrade/Downgrade Committee should be on the formal Upgrade/Downgrade Form
- Coaches letters are also taken into consideration but are not a determining factor
- Riders should read about Citizen Permits before applying for a UCI licence (click here for details on Citizen Permits)
- Must follow structured course plan as outlined by Coaching Association of Canada (CAC)
- Various levels (1,2,3,4,5) for Road & Track and MTB coaches
- Required to have completed Theory, Technical and Practical components of NCCP

- Recognize commissaires at Provincial, National and International (UCI) levels in Road & Track and/or MTB
- Must complete 2 day commissaire course in discipline (Road & Track or MTB) in order to be licenced commissaire
- Commissaires must have a valid licence in order to officiate
Manager
- Can be manager in Road and/or MTB
- Allows member to be able to represent riders at events
- Have access to feed zones and ability to issue protests to commissaires on behalf of riders
- Must complete 2 day commissaire course in discipline (Road or MTB)
- Level 1 coaching is recommended but is not a requirement
Medical/Soigneur
- Can be medical/soigneur in Road and/or MTB
- Can only be registered professional (i.e. Massage Therapist, Physiotherapist)
- Must submit proof of profession (can be a photocopy) along with OCA Membership Application Form
Mechanic
- Can be mechanic in Road and/or MTB
- While experience is necessary, there are no specified requirements to be a licenced mechanic
