Track racing returned to the Velodrome this past weekend with the Ontario Youth Track Development Series Race #2 on Saturday and O-Cup #2 on Sunday. Both events mark the halfway point in the Youth Series & Ontario Cup seasons.
The Ontario Youth Track Development Series Race #2 saw 80 youth register – another record number! Riders had the opportunity to start the day off with a 45 minute skill session, working on the skills they would later need for their races! Competing in grades A through E, all riders experienced both individual and bunch races as well as some spectator friendly events such as the Longest Lap.
The day saw some great racing and some good fun all around! Thank you to colour commentator Herbie Sax – a second year Sport Broadcasting student at the College of Sports Media for providing some entertaining race commentary.
Sunday’s O-Cup had 112 participants! Once again competition was fierce with both new and returning faces on the podium. The bunch races and the keirin featured exciting viewing for the spectators in the house. It was great to see so many riders joining us from Quebec and the USA again. Thank you for making the journey over and we look forward to welcoming you to O-Cup #3/Eastern Challenge on February 11th/12th.
These events could not take place without the dedication and support of coaches, clubs, parents and our commissaires and volunteers who share their time to ensure fair competition and the safety of our athletes. Thank you all.
