Citizen Level Events

Introduction
These events are any event in Ontario that is not part of the Southern Cup Series, Eastern Series, Provincial Championships or a UCI/National level event.

Who can Participate?
Citizen level events generally have the same categories as Southern Cup events. Please confirm with the organizer as some categories may change due to the number of riders participating.  Since Cyclo-Cross World Championships are in January 2014, categories are based on rider’s age as of December 31, 2014.

What Type of Membership is Required?
The minimum licence requirement to participate in a Citizen level race is a Citizen Permit. If you do not hold a Citizen Permit or UCI licence, Non-Member permits may be available. Please check with the organizer or the OCA in advance of the event to see if Non-Member permits will be available.

Eastern Ontario Cyclo-Cross Series

Introduction
The Eastern Ontario Cyclo-Cross Series is a club-run weekly series which offers a great introduction into the sport in a fun filled atmosphere. The series is run by the Ottawa Bicycle Club and has drawn an average of 180 riders per event in 2012. Visit www.cyclocross.org for more information.

Who can Participate?

What Type of Membership is Required?
The minimum licence requirement to participate in the Eastern Ontario Cyclo-Cross Series is a Citizen Permit. If you do not hold a Citizen Permit or UCI licence, Non-Member permits may be available. All registration for events is in advance, there is no day-of registration. Non-Member Permits and Citizen Permits can be purchased at the same time as registering.

Southern Cup Cyclo-Cross Series

The Southern Cup Cyclo-cross Series is Southern Ontario’s main cyclo-cross series. The OCA Events Committee has designed minimum standards for these events to assist race organizers and to ensure that the events are run to the highest standard. The following is a brief overview of the Series as well as guidelines which organizers shall follow.

Series Schedule

Southern Cup Series will consist of 6-10 races occurring on Sundays only

  • Races after Provincials can be included in the Series
  • Provincial Championships will not be part of the Series
  • Series will not start until the final Road (ITT, Road Race, Criterium or Hill Climb) Provincial Championship has been completed

Series Categories and Upgrade Points

Current road ability based categories will be used throughout the Southern Cup Series.

Upgrade Points will be awarded as follows:

Note: Upgrade points will also be awarded at Citizen level cyclo-cross races, except for the OBC Eastern Series races.

Optional upgrades will occur once a rider reaches 25 points and mandatory upgrades will occur at 45 points. An upgrade date will be set at the beginning of the season. At this point riders who are above the Optional Upgrade point but are below the Mandatory will be forced to upgrade for the remainder of the season. The same system as used in road.

The Jersey Rule will be in effect for Junior, Senior Men and Women.

Provincial Championships have different licence requirements.

There will be a reduced Cyclo-cross only UCI licence that will be offered. This will be made available only in August prior to the start of the first cyclo-cross race.
