Canada Summer Games - Testing and Tested
The last weekend in November marked the continuing preparation of athletes vying for a spot with Team Ontario to compete in PEI next summer. Twenty invited athletes were put through several tests at the new and improved High Performance Lab at the Canadian Sport Centre where collecting data was the name of the game. The athletes found out what level of conditioning they had and weaknesses were identified. Newly crowned Mountain bike coach Mike Garrigan was in attendance along with personal coach to several of the athletes, Frank Fogolin.
Sunday's endurance ride saw the gang head out in cool temperatures over the hills of Halton, Caledon and Gafraxa Township. The wind became the determining factor as the mercury slowly dipped throughout the ride. Fearless leaders Dan Maggiacomo, Matt Kings, Amy Moore and Mike Amaral did an excellent job keeping the groups on task. Toes and fingers were pretty much frozen by the end but nothing coffee, tea and hot chocolate (along with pounds of food) couldn't rectify.
The professionalism shown by all athletes is to be commended as we head into a fantastic 2009 for Team Ontario.
The OCA would like to thank all the athletes, coaches and all the staff at the Canadian Sports Centre Ontario for a great day!
