FREE Youth Program
The Forest City Velodrome, Ontario Cycling Association and Ontario Trillium Foundation are looking for the next Canadian Olympian in cycling. If you are new to Cycling or an athlete in another sport (athletics, running, hockey, soccer, volleyball) and you would like to give track cycling a try. Here is your chance to come to the Forest City Velodrome in London to find out what cycling has to offer.
We are looking for boys and girls, 14 - 16 years old to participate in our youth cycling program, Saturday afternoon's at 2pm. The introduction is part of our very successful Velo-Kids program, that in 4 short years has produced 9 Gold medals for Team Ontario at the Canadian Track Cycling Championships.
Every Saturday afternoon from November 14th - March 6. The FCV will conduct a 1 hour introduction to the Velodrome, and the cool thing is that the introduction is "FREE" and includes the use of a bike.
Interested athletes need to register: ForestCityVelodrome@live.com
Good luck to all future Olympians.
FCV announces "Winter Training" Sessions
London's Forest City Velodrome is starting an innovative new training session for the winter months. The sessions are scheduled for Friday nights beginning, November 13th and will run through to the end of March.
They are aimed at riders wanting to train at mid-intensity over longer distances, and at those looking to put in quality "base miles" for next year's racing season. Training will take the form of team pursuits and pursuit drills, with occasional motor pacing. Part of the fun will be learning to use the track banking and ride in tight formation.
In announcing these sessions, the FCV's Lorne Falkenstein said, "We are hoping these sessions will fill a gap between the needs of those people wanting to come out and ride at a relaxed pace for fun and fitness and those wanting to do some serious training at higher speeds -but without necessarily having to do a lot of short, intense intervals".
There will be a skills component and a challenge component that will make the sessions a lot more interesting than riding the trainer and a lot more congenial than going out on the road in the dark, cold, ice and snow!
These winter training sessions will start at 7:30pm Friday November 13th. The only pre-requisite is that you must have completed Track 1 & 2. These sessions will be drop-in so no pre-registration will be required.

New Youth Program
The Forest City Velodrome will be starting a New Youth Program with the Ontario Cycling Association in November. We will be teaching the Youth of Ontario the benefits of track cycling and training during the winter.
Many of these young cyclists will be looking for inexpensive (free) bicycles to use while at the FCV and at home on rollers. If you have a bike that is collecting dust and you would like to place it in a new home with a young (under 18 year old) rider.
Please contact ForestCityVelodrome@live.com . We will make the arrangements to place your bike in a great new home.
