BMX and Downhill Fitness Testing
On Saturday, January 23rd some of Ontario's most talented BMX and Downhill athletes travelled to Toronto to get tested for the first time in 2010. The Downhill athletes will head south in March to Bootleg, Nevada and the BMX athletes will start 2010 preparations in Florida come March 20.
The testing was a great chance to see how some of the BMX and DH athletes have improved on a variety of standardized tests from the 2009 season. These tests have been used over the past few seasons in Ontario. The talent pool in both sports is growing and this is due to improved coaching and better events here in Ontario over the past two seasons. 2010 will see Canada host the World Downhill Championships; this will be a great chance for Ontario athletes to compete on home soil.
With National BMX Championships in August this year it will be a long season but one that give Ontario lots of time to prepare for Nationals success. BMX coach, Brendan Arnold was really impressed with the results. He commented, "Each year the results get better and better, we are recruiting more coaches and the support from the clubs in Ontario has been a huge help".
Downhill project coach, Chris Cousineau was very impressed with the athletes attitudes, fitness and preparation for the upcoming camp. Assistant coach, Brandon Cassell also attended and is looking forward to the pre-season camp in which he attended in 2009.
