Advocacy

Rights and Responsibilities, Fairness and Accessibility

Following in the direction established by Norma Moores, the former Chair of the R&T Committee, we are developing programs in four areas, each with their own vision:

EDUCATION Every cyclist trained, every road user informed.
ADVOCACY Change the cycling environment to make it fair.
TOURING Anyone can have fun on a bicycle - a great way to experience Ontario.
MEMBER SERVICES Power in numbers - who's who and where as we embark on achieving these ambitious visions, we are faced with the task of building momentum with limited resources and a few dedicated volunteers. The more hands we have contributing to the work the easier it will be and the more effective we will become.

Each area has amazing potential, so get involved, and help make a difference. - By Gavin MacPhail, Chair R&T

OCA and IMBA “Ontario Trail Improvement Grants”

Mountain bike groups in Ontario will benefit from a new grant program dedicated to improving trails. The program is a partnership between the Ontario Cycling Association (OCA) and the International Mountain Bicycling Association’s (IMBA) Canadian office. In 2005, a percentage of every full OCA Membership sold will go toward creating, maintaining and preserving trails across the province.

Funds may be used for a variety of purposes, including the purchase of trailbuilding tools, the construction of trailhead kiosks, improved trail signage, and other trailbuilding materials. Projects that create or improve trails used for mountain bike racing will receive the highest consideration.

Three $500 grants are available. Application deadline is June 1st.

Clubs belonging to both the OCA and IMBA are invited to apply.

Grant Applications MUST Include:

1.A 1-2 page, typed description of the proposed project that demonstrates how funds will be used to improve trail access for mountain bike racing, training and riding.
2.A budget outline for the entire project.
3.Complete contact info including: club name, contact name, address, phone, email, and website.
4.Club must be a current member of both the OCA and IMBA.

Please submit applications via email (preferred) to lora@imba.com or by mail to: IMBA - Canadian Grant Programs, PO Box 404, Collingwood, ON, Canada, L9Y 3Z7.
Questions should be directed to IMBA, lora@imba.com
