Any rider with a valid UCI rider licence is eligible to participate. Canadian residents who do not possess a UCI licence must purchase an OCA Citizen Permit.
a) OCA Citizen Permit This permit is available to any unlicensed adult rider for $40 ($30 with proof of OCA club membership), for $35 ($25 with proof of OCA club membership) to Junior riders (17-18) and $30 to Youth riders (under the age of 17 as of December 31, 2007). It can be purchased through the OCA or at any cyclo-cross event in Ontario and is valid for all Ontario permitted races until December 31, 2007. This permit is only valid in Ontario. For more information on Citizen Permits please click here.
Note that One-Event Racing Permits will not be available at any Cyclo-cross race in Ontario unless specified.
b) American & foreign riders In general, UCI licences are the minimum requirement for participation in the series. This is a requirement of the Canadian sanctioning and insurance system. American riders are eligible to purchase an OCA Citizen Permit. Riders with a United States Domestic licence (i.e. USCF or NORBA) are not permitted to participate and will be turned away at race registration unless One-Event Racing Permits are available.
American and foreign riders are not eligible for provincial championship medals and/or Cyclo-Cross Series points - see Provincial Championships below.
b) One-Event Racing Permits One-Event Racing Permits will be sold at the organizer's discretion. Please contact the organizer in advance to determine if they are being sold. One-Event Racing Permits have a cost of $5. Riders can only purchase 3 One-Event Racing Permits throughout the season (season includes road, mountain bike, weekly series, etc.) before required to purchase an OCA membership.
The OCA has two of the best Cyclo-Cross series in the country: the Eastern Ontario Cyclo-Cross Series and the Southern Ontario Cyclo-Cross Series. Each is a series of races where points are awarded to the top riders at each event and awards are presented at the end of the season to the top overall finishers in several categories. Since Cyclo-Cross World Championships are in January 2008, categories are based on rider’s age as of December 31, 2008.
Only Ontario residents who hold a UCI licence or an OCA Citizen Permit are eligible for points and awards.
The Provincial Cyclo-cross Championship race will be open to all riders who hold a UCI licence or an OCA Citizen Permit, however, only Ontario residents are eligible for medals. All riders are eligible for prizes.
