Cycle Solutions Four Cross (4x) Ontario Cup Series (Scroll down for event schedule)
|
The Ontario Cup is the OCA’s premier racing series. To help provide high quality and consistent races, the OCA is proud to have Sir Bikealot Racing returning as the official event organizer for the entire 2008 4X O-Cup schedule of events.
Introduction For riders who enjoy challenging courses and competing against riders from across the province, the OCA Ontario Cup 4x Series is for you. Located at OCA affliliated BMX tracks, 4x is the bridging discipline between BMX and DH. The series is 4 events in length, finishing in spectacular fashion with the Provincial Championships.
O-Cup riders are categorized based, first by age, then by ability. Riders earn upgrade points to upgrade to the next higher ability category (upgrade policy to be determined). Ontario Cup points are awarded to all categories as a measure for riders to compare however, the OCA only recognizes the highest ability category of each age category when determining Ontario Cup Series Champions. 4x upgrade points are different than DH upgrade points.
Who can Participate? Riders who are at least 10 years of age as of December 31, 2008 can participate in the Ontario Cup 4x Series.
What Type of Membership is Required? In order to participate in an O-Cup you must be a racing member of the OCA.However different categories have different restrictions.Click here for a guide to selecting the type of membership that suits your needs.
Equipment Requirements - frame must be a mountain bike frame, no cruisers - wheels must be 24-29" - rear brakes are required
Registration Riders can register at the event but it is to their disadvantage. Pre-registering reduces waiting in line the day of the event (the Pre-Reg line is always shorter and quicker) as well pre-registering makes sense economically. Entry fees for pre-registration are typically $10 less for 4x than day-of entry fees.
Pre-registration and registration for Ontario Cups are processed by the Organizer. For more information please contact Sir Bikealot Racing.
Scoring 1. Scoring Rules: The finish position of each rider relative to the other riders in his race is used as the basis for all scoring determinations. A rider will be considered to have finished a race and will be scored at the moment when he has completed the entire race course and any part of his person or bicycle breaks through the vertical plane established by the finish line, providing that he and his bicycle are in contact with each other at that moment. If a rider or riders fall and are no longer in competition for a scoring position, the rider will receive a DNF which equals last place points.
2. Qualification Round: A) Scoring System: Riders are scored using the "Olympic system" wherein each rider is assigned a point score equal to the sum of his finish positions (ie: A rider receives 1 point for a first place in his MOTO, 2 points for a second place finish, 3 points for a third place finish and 4 points for a fourth place finish) in the three motos and is assigned an overall finish position which corresponds with the rank his point score bears to the point scores of the other riders in the race.
B) DNS and DNF's: Any rider who starts but fails to finish a race will be scored as a DNF and will receive last-place points equal to the number of riders in the race. Any rider who fails to start a race will be scored as a DNS and will be awarded 2 more than last place points for his first DNS, but will be ineligible to transfer if he fails to start in more than one round of motos.
C) Ties: that result from this scoring method are resolved in favour of the rider earning the lower number of points in the third moto.
D) Moto Selection process: All riders and lanes are randomly picked for qualifying moto's. If the category is not divisible by 4 (ie: If there are 10 racers registered in Junior Sport then Moto's are set up to have the maximum amount of riders in each moto therefore in this example you would have moto's of 4 riders, 3 riders and 3 riders to equal 10 racers).
E) The final results from the qualification round will be used to determine Ontario Cup Championship Series overall points.
3. Main Event: A) Single Elimination: The qualification round will result in the racers of each category having a minimum of 3 points and up to a maximum of 12 points. These scores will be used to determine the Moto's for single round elimination, where the two highest qualifiers (least points) in a category will race the two lowest qualifiers (most points); the riders who place 1st and 2nd in this Moto move onto the next round and the 3rd and 4th place riders are out of the competition.
If the category is not divisible by 4 than the top qualifiers (1,2 or 3 riders until the number is divisible by 4) receive a by in the first round of single elimination. The single elimination continues until 1 final round of 4 is left.
B) Medals and Prizing: The placing for medals and prizing (1st, 2nd, 3rd) will be determined in the Main event.
C) DNS, DNF and Ties: if a DNS or DNF occurs they are out of the main event, there is no recourse due to the single elimination format. Ties at the finish lie are called on the spot by the commissaire, if nothing can be resolved then ONLY the riders who tied will race again.
Ontario Cup Points Ontario Cup points are awarded to all categories as a measure for riders to compare however, the OCA only recognizes the highest ability category of each age category when determining Ontario Cup Series Champions.One-Event Racing Permit riders are not entitled to earn O-Cup points.

NEW for 2005!! - Ontario Cup points in lower ability categories are still tracked however the procedure for O-Cup Points and mid season upgrading has changed. O-Cup points earned in the lower category will be divided by 3 and each lower category race will count as one race. For example a rider who earns 9 O-Cups points in each of their 3 sport races, then upgrades to expert will earn 3 O-Cup points for each of these individual sport races. In the overall expert series, the best 5 results are used for tabulation. Each of the sport events would count as one individual expert event with 3 O-Cup points. Riders who upgrade during the season are not eligible for series awards in their former category. For clarification, please contact the OCA office. Riders are not required to start the Provincial Championships to be eligible for OCA Ontario Cup 4x Series awards. Series awards presentations will be conducted at the Provincial Championships.
Competition Results and Protests If a rider has a race problem/protest at an event they should deal immediately with the Chief Commissaire at that event. The Chief Commissaire's decision shall be final. If a rider wishes to further appeal the decision, a written protest must be filed to the Provincial Chief Commissaire c/o the OCA within 10 business days.
NOTE: Any race result discrepancies must be reported to the finish commissaire within 15 minutes of being posted at the event. Following this 15 minute period, results are considered final and are signed off as official. Protests can be of the following nature: 1) the configuration of a bike (illegal), 2) the classification of a rider (wrong class) and 3) the finish position awarded.
Protest must be in writing 15 minutes after the moto in question.
NORBA Domestic Licences New policy concerning athlete in possession of a NORBA domestic licence. These participants will be permitted to purchase a one-event membership in the equivalent category as stated on the NORBA domestic licence. This will include all categories up to and including Expert. Elite category status is reserved exclusively for international licence holders.
Some events may include more than one race within the competition program. Riders should consult their provincial/territorial associations for the restrictions on one-event memberships.
