Cycle Solutions Ontario Cup Downhill Series (Scroll down for event schedule)
|
The Ontario Cup is the OCA’s premier racing series. To help provide high quality and consistent races, the OCA is proud have Sir Bikealot Racing returning as the official event organizer for the entire 2008 Downhill O-Cup schedule of events.
Introduction For riders who enjoy challenging courses and competing against riders from across the province, the OCA Ontario Cup Downhill Series is for you. In 2008, OCA offers 6 events in length finishing in spectacular fashion with the Provincial Championships.
The DH series, like any downhill race, is normally held at Ski Resorts.
O-Cup riders are categorized based, first by age, then by ability. Riders earn upgrade points to upgrade to the next higher ability category. Ontario Cup points are awarded to all categories as a measure for riders to compare however, the OCA only recognizes the highest ability category of each age category when determining Ontario Cup Series Champions.
Who can Participate? Riders who are at least 13 years of age as of December 31, 2008 can participate in the Ontario Cup DH Series.
What Type of Membership is Required? In order to participate in an O-Cup you must be a racing member of the OCA. However different categories have different restrictions.Click here for a guide to selecting the type of membership that suits your needs.
Registration Riders can register at the event but it is to their disadvantage.Pre-registering reduces waiting in line the day of the event (the Pre-Reg line is always shorter and quicker) as well pre-registering makes sense economically. Entry fees for pre-registration are typically $8 less for XC and $10 less for DH than day-of entry fees.
Ontario Cup Points Ontario Cup points are awarded to all categories as a measure for riders to compare however, the OCA only recognizes the highest ability category of each age category when determining Ontario Cup Series Champions.One-Event Racing Permit riders are not entitled to earn O-Cup points.

Ontario Cup points in lower ability categories are still tracked however the procedure for O-Cup Points and mid season upgrading has changed. O-Cup points earned in the lower category will be divided by 3 and each lower category race will count as one race. For example a rider who earns 9 O-Cups points in each of their 3 sport races, then upgrades to expert will earn 3 O-Cup points for each of these individual sport races. In the overall expert series, the best 5 results are used for tabulation. Each of the sport events would count as one individual expert event with 3 O-Cup points. Riders who upgrade during the season are not eligible for series awards in their former category. For clarification, please contact the OCA office. Season ending O-Cup DH point totals will be based on the rider's 7 best results. Riders are not required to start the Provincial Championships to be eligible for OCA Ontario Cup Downhill Series awards. Series awards presentations will be conducted at the Provincial Championships.
Competition Results and Protests If a rider has a race problem/protest at an event they should deal immediately with the Chief Commissaire at that event. The Chief Commissaire's decision shall be final. If a rider wishes to further appeal the decision, a written protest must be filed to the Provincial Chief Commissaire c/o the OCA within 10 business days.
NOTE: Any race result discrepancies must be reported to the finish commissaire within 15 minutes of being posted at the event. Following this 15 minute period, results are considered final and are signed off as official.
NORBA Domestic Licences New policy concerning athlete in possession of a NORBA domestic licence. These participants will be permitted to purchase a one-event membership in the equivalent category as stated on the NORBA domestic licence. This will include all categories up to and including Expert. Elite category status is reserved exclusively for international licence holders.
Some events may include more than one race within the competition program. Riders should consult their provincial/territorial associations for the restrictions on one-event memberships.
