Road Upgrade Procedures, Formulas & List

The top 5 (five) licensed riders in each category will receive upgrade points (5,4,3,2,1). In combined Senior events, only those riders in the top 15 overall will be entitled to points e.g. if the 3rd Senior 2 rider places 16th overall, no points will be awarded beyond the 2nd Senior 2.

For all riders in ability categories:

·        The top five riders in each category will receive points (5, 4, 3, 2, 1)

·        No points will be awarded for general classification in a stage race because each stage is awarded upgrade points

·        In combined events only those riders in the top 15 overall will be awarded points

·         If you meet the requirements for upgrading, please contact the OCA office. We will issue you a new licence.

·         Riders who voluntarily downgrade must pay a $10 licence processing fee

·         Upgrade points are current for the calendar year

Senior riders:

·        Riders who compete out-of-province can earn up to half of their upgrade points at these events by completing an Out-of-Province Result Form. The Out-of-Province Result Form can be downloaded from the OCA website.

·        Senior 1 riders require three points to retain status

·        Senior 2 riders require one point to retain status

·        Senior 2/3/4 riders require ten points to upgrade

·        Private Senior ½ teams are not subject to the downgrade policy

·        Riders gaining sufficient points to upgrade to the next category can choose to upgrade at that time. Upgrading is mandatory as of July 1, for all riders gaining sufficient points in the first half of the season and at the end of each racing season.

Master riders:

·        Master 2/3 riders may choose to upgrade once 10 points have been scored

·        Master 2/3 riders must upgrade prior to their next road race in Ontario once they have scored 15 points.

·        Master racers are not subject to forced downgrades

·        Master C riders can remain in Master 2

·        Master D riders can remain in Master 3

·        Provincial Championships will include Master 1/2/3/D

Junior riders:

·        2nd year Junior riders who place in the top 10 of the Ontario Cup standings and/or are a Provincial Champion in any road discipline are seeded in Senior 2 the following year.

No points will be awarded for General Classification in a stage race.

Those riders that compete out-of-province can earn up to half their upgrade points at these events by completing an Out-of-Province Result Form. This form must be signed by the Chief Official of the event and submitted to the OCA no later than 2 weeks after the event. The Out-of-Province Result Form can be obtained from the OCA website.

If you meet the requirements for upgrading, send your licence, and a note explaining your situation to the OCA office. You may also drop your old licence at the OCA booth during the selected regional and Ontario Cup races. We will issue you a temporary licence. Your new licence will be mailed to you the next week. Please allow sufficient time before your race for this to be completed.
