On May 17th, 2014, the Barrie/Simcoe Cycling Club hosted its 5th annual Youth Cup race along with their first ever Women’s Only Road Race. Both races took place on a brand new, completely traffic free course in Barrie’s south end.

As expected, the turn out for the Youth Race was great. With just under 100 pre-registered racers, the race proved to be very exciting.

The Women’s Only Road Race was slightly smaller than expected, however the BCC decided to continue with the plans to host the race. Some day-of registrations brought the total number of women racers to 11, and although much smaller than the Youth Cup, the race was considered a success. The BCC plans to grow the race in the years to come and hopes to see more women coming out to participate.
