This past Saturday (June 01) across the province (June 02 in Brampton) was the third annual Ontario Women’s Ride Day, and the 2019 version presented by CCN, was unquestionably the most successful yet.
The Ontario Women’s Ride Day is an initiative, launched back in 2017 by the Ontario Cycling Association, to help introduce women and girls to the world of organized cycling by providing clubs an opportunity to host a free activity day catered towards increasing female cycling participation. While marketed to female participants, this event is all-inclusive. Anyone is free to participate and over the first three years of this initiative, Ontario Women’s Ride Day has seen over 600 total participants.
This year 17 clubs across the province participated in hosting an official activity for both members and non-members. With both road and off-road activities (including track cycling at the Mattamy National Cycling Centre) being available, there was something for everyone.

In addition to these great club riding opportunities, Pulse Racing hosted a fantastic Women’s 4 Hour Mountain Bike Relay at Hardwood Ski & Bike for those wanting to test their competitive spirit. This event was a great success with over 150 women participating in multiple race categories including solo, 2 female and 3-4 female teams.
Both the Mountain Bike Relay and the club activities have had a ton of positive feedback and we are already looking forward to bringing this opportunity to more participants in 2020.
