October 17th 9:00am – 1:00pm Milton In person Skills and Lesson Planning
Beginning your coaching journey? Perhaps you plan on working at a youth camp or club and wish to help develop programming for various age groups. Join our Basic Cycling Skills course where you will develop first hand coaching experience. This course is the second half of your Community Initiation (level 1) Certification, and is also the first of 5 courses necessary to begin your Introduction to Competition (level 2) coaching journey.
This first half of this course will be completed online, Thursday evening from 6-9:30pm where coaches will be introduced to basic cycling practice structure and work towards understanding and creating their own lesson plans. Participants will work both as a group and individually to design their own in-person coaching sessions. On Saturday October 17th from 9am-1pm, attendees will meet in person to implement their various lesson plans while receiving feedback to help gain confidence and experience coaching and teaching cycling skills to other athletes. By the end of this course you will be prepared to deliver basic cycling skills programming at a club or camp level.
The Ready to Race! Basic Cycling Skills course is one of two coaching courses necessary to complete your Community Initiation Certification (the old coaching level 1). This course partners with the virtual Let’s Ride! Community Initiation coaching course to begin your journey into on-bike coaching with both youth and beginner adults.
Join Ontario Cycling Association Coach Chantal Thompson on both Thursday and Saturday October 15th and 17th to learn more and begin your coaching journey.
