Kelso Conservation Area, Sunday May 24/2015

The Scott Ontario Cup series presented by Plastiglas powered by Clif made it’s second stop on the series at Kelso – Ontario’s classic mtb hotbed!  The springs’ stellar weather continued with hot, muggy conditions that finally did away with the snow on the hills!

The weekend started off with pre-riding out of the SUMMIT to allow for a Dragon Boat race, and continued Sunday with some awesome performances from a wide variety of riders.  After wrestling with trains to get our sponsors to the event scene, the Men’s Elite field was dominated by past Kelso winner Andrew Watson of Norco, who had a solid lead on second place rider, Team Progressive p/b Superfly’s own Kelsey Krushel.  This new team is making waves this season!  Third place went to Jon Slaughter from Angry Johnny’s / Cycle Solutions – his first Ontario Cup top 3 performance!  The Elite Women’s race saw another first-time winner, Elyse Nieuwold of Holiday Inn Calgary/P/K Express, while second went to Trek Red Truck racing’s Karlee Gendron.  Third also saw a newcomer to Elite make the podium, with the affable Sarah Lynch of Two Wheel Racing tasting her first Elite podium.

Junior Expert categories saw a sprint win over Trek Canada’s Tyler (the icicle) Orschel by Quinten Disera of Angry Johnny’s, while Soren Meeuwisse of Trek Canada cruised to another victory.  Other notable rides included a win by Plastiglas owner Steve Baker in the new 65+ category, and a solid win by Superfly Racing’s fiancé Alana Zabukovec (on her Scott Spark) in the Senior Expert Category.

This great day of riding is a good training ground for the next stop on the series – the Ontario Cup #3/Canada Cup #2 at Horseshoe Resort!  This promises to be an incredible week of back-to-back racing with Hardwood Ski and Bike – come be a part of this amazing week of riding.  Go to:
