OCA Announces Provincial Para-Cycling Coach Blaine Betzold

The Ontario Cycling Association [OCA] is pleased to announce Blaine Betzold as the Provincial Para-cycling Coach. Blaine had previously been involved with the OCA as the primary coach for handcycling, leading the inaugural OCA handcycling high performance program and hosting development camps for new and developing handcyclists. Prior to focusing on para-cycling, Blaine was involved in a number of community cycling clubs across mountain bike, road, and track cycling. However, his passion quickly turned to para-cycling after volunteering with a local para-sport initiative and enjoying learning how to creatively navigate the challenges that make each athlete unique. Since that time, Blaine got involved by volunteering with OCA para-cycling programs, began personally coaching several aspiring handcyclists, and is completing the final stages of his NCCP Performance Cycling Competition Development certification.

Blaine’s focus this year will be on recruiting and introducing new athletes and coaches to para-cycling, hosting development camps for athletes already within the system, and delivering coaching services to higher performing athletes as they work to bridge into Cycling Canada programs. We encourage any athletes, coaches, or clubs interested in learning more about para-cycling to contact Blaine at blainebetzold@gmail.com.
