OCA Indoor Road Race Series Recap

June 20th saw the final race in the OCA Indoor Road Race Series take place on the suitably challenging 2019 Worlds Harrogate Circuit. With zero flat sections to allow riders the chance to breathe, the course was the perfect finale to over two months of great virtual racing on the Zwift platform.

From deserts to the tropics, through jungles and cities; the series was a virtual cycling tour that took riders from North America to Europe and beyond. The races ranged from 32 km’s to 83 km’s in length and typically took riders around an hour and half to compete.

The series saw a total of eight races, with six of them being included in the points series that rewarded riders for not just how they finished but also for registering on time and using a heart rate monitor among other things. A total of 420 riders took part in series with 231 competing in the points portion. The quality of races was boosted by the inclusion of out-of-province riders including 160 Chilean triathlon athletes during the second-to-last race who increased the competition level in the ‘A’ category.
