OCA OHPSI BMX Spring Camp – Day 1-3 Report
by Brendan Arnold – OHPSI Head Coach
The 5th Annual OCA BMX Spring Camp officially kicked off this week in Florida with Ontario’s top BMX athletes in attendance. The focus of the camp is to continue to support athletes in the Train to Compete stages of the OCA BMX LTAD. The athletes in attendance have shown that they are not only the best in Ontario but also some of the best in Canada.
With tracks in Ontario not open till late in May this camp gives the athletes a chance to train and race in a warm climate with some of the fastest riders in the planet in Florida.
The week started with a tough fundamentals practice at St Pete’s BMX with the athletes going full speed in the hot and humid conditions. Alex Wright from Kingston who recently spent time with the National team is riding really fast. Alex is first year Junior and is looking to go for Gold at Nationals this year in Toronto.
Josh Samells is the current U15 National Champion and after a long off season is ready to get back to racing in 2014. Josh is back stronger and more focussed than ever. He had a strong practice today in St Petes and is shaking off some rust really fast!
“We had an awesome gate session this morning with Coach Brendi, we are starting to feel really fast and its only day 3” – Josh Samells
Next up for camp is a training session at one of the best tracks in North America – Oldsmar, Florida.
