Scott Ontario Cup #2 presented by Plastiglas powered by Caterpillar was a little damp!

The Ontario Cup faced epic conditions this past weekend with record levels of rain causing wide spread flooding throughout Ontario and Quebec. The MTB Kingston club members worked throughout the week right up to the start of the last race on Sunday to make the best of a wet weekend. The conditions were far from perfect with but those who showed up to race made the best of it and had a fun time sliding around the mud and flying down the pump track!

Continuing with the great idea of splitting up the young racers, the 9am course was a short fun and mostly dry blast through the pump track and barn and back into the start/finish/feedzone. A few of the young guns were disappointed to skip all the mud.

The Elite Men’s field saw some different faces on the podium with hometown boy Evan McNeely (Forward Racing – Norco) taking the win with a move in the last corner over Alexandre Vialle from Prevost QC in second. Matthew Martindill (Arrow Racing) took third followed by Davis Ross (AWI Racing) in fourth and Tyler Orschel (Progressive Sport p/b 3Rox/Maverix Racing) rounding out the podium in 5th. Derrick St John (Van Dessel p/b Huperthreads) made a return to mountain bike racing after a 16 year break to slide around in the mud to a strong 9th place. It was a good day to have some strong cyclocross skills!

Soren Meeuwisse (Trek Canada) took a second win in the Ontario Cup while second went to Jenn Jackson from Barrie. Third went to Heather Gray of Angry Johnny’s Evolution p/b Norco&Horseshoe.

Capping off the day was a few great sets from The Banters while waiting to confirm results, and great food from The Smokin Carnivore.  The Ontario Cup makes its next stop at Horseshoe Resort, June 11th. This event is being run by Superfly Racing, for information on Ontario Cup
