The sun was shining on the Niagara Escarpment and over 100 workers were busying in its shadow yesterday morning, when the OCA and the Canadian Sport Institute of Ontario (CSIO) visited the PAN-AM Milton Velodrome.
Confirmed by the developer, the build is back on track, meaning that the building is slated for completion, September 30th, 2014. Steven Palmer, from the City of Milton, led the tour of the site which took staff around all three floors of the facility including the OCA office space on the first floor, the athlete testing center on the second floor and the physical track itself on the third floor.
News of the build being back on track was welcomed news as we are less than four months away from two of Canada’s largest track events. The Milton International Challenge (UCI Track Event) will take place on the 16th of October through to the 19th and the Canadian National Track Championships will following closely after on the 21st of October wrapping up five days later on the 25th.
We remind our membership to mark the date of July 12th on their calendars as it’s the one-year countdown to the PAN-AM / PARAPAN AM Games. The event taking place in Milton will feature family-friendly fund for all ages. More information will be available shortly on the Town of Milton’s website.
We strongly encourage members and non-members a like to contribute to the “last mile” of fundraising for the Velodrome. Individuals can purchase a plank ($25) or a permanent seat ($250) to contribute to cycling history here in Ontario and in Canada, if you want to “Make it Happen” click that link!
Check back on the OCA website in the upcoming weeks for announcements regarding our new Ontario Cup Track Series starting this fall taking place at the Velodrome!
